Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)

We are committed to fostering an environment in which scientists and engineers from diverse backgrounds can learn, grow, and work towards achieving their professional and personal goals. In addition, we contribute to initiatives within the department, college, campus, and community that seek to increase access to and participation in the STEM fields, as well as efforts to improve inclusion and equity in chemical engineering and biomedical research.

  • We will establish a welcoming and inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our lab members. Discriminatory behavior of any kind is not tolerated.
  • Discussion and training on DEI topics will be a regular component of lab meetings.
  • Mentoring will be tailored towards each individual’s scientific and professional goals.
  • We will seek opportunities to apply our tools to improve equity in healthcare.
  • We will participate in and create opportunities that seek to introduce STEM and research careers to students from historically under-represented populations.
